The winner of the Ivor Novello Award ramps up this release from his forthcoming 'Magnetic North' album - a pleasant and inoffensive slice of indie-pop. 'Soleil' - failing its MOT on its clutch with a non too catchy tune and a vocal delivery like a man falling from a tree, at a moderate height. 'Canal Song' holds the chassis together with a tune that could have come from the glove box of Badly Drawn Boy, so similar in style and song - Mr Archer spinning gossamer threads with his lilting acoustic ghee-tar and melodica swoons and "...it's the only thing that I need...". All in all, tracks for drive time.
